Description:
Polymyxin B sulfate is similar with polymyxin E, and has either bacteriostatic or bactericidal effect on various kinds of gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli deputy, Klebsiella pneumoniae, acidophilus, Bordetella pertussis and Shigella dysentery.
Polymyxin B is a kind of anti-Gram-negative poly-peptide antibiotics which can alter membrane structure allowing small molecules leakage and inhibit the growth of Gram-negative bacteria. It has bactericidal effect on Escherichia coli through binding to the lipid A portion of bacterial lipopolysaccharide. Mechanism of action: bind and interfere with the permeability o the cellular membrane. Anti-bacteria spectrum: gram negative bacteria.

Application:
1. Polymyxin B Sulfate is the basic peptide antibiotics, mainly for the prevention and treatment of susceptible infections and promote animal growth.
2. Polymyxin B Sulfate can be combined with the cell membrane lipoprotein phosphate free, making the cell membrane surface tension decreases, increased permeability, resulting in the cytoplasm outflow of cell death.
3. Polymyxin B Sulfate has a strong inhibitory effect against gram-negative bacteria (particularly E. coli, Salmonella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus and Haemophilus, etc.),has no effect on Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and except hemolytic streptococcus outside) and fungi.
4. Colistin sulfate oral is difficult to absorb, less toxic, easy to cause drug residues, easy to produce drug resistance.
