Oxytetracycline is an organic substance with a chemical formula of C22H24O9N2. It is a light yellow crystalline powder, slightly soluble in ethanol and very slightly soluble in water. Stable in the air, the color gradually darkens when exposed to light. Oxytetracycline is an acid-base amphoteric. It can combine with acid or alkali to form salts. It dissolves very little in water, and is easily soluble in dilute alkali and dilute acid. Oxytetracycline salt is easily destroyed and invalidated in alkaline aqueous solution. More stable in acidic aqueous solution.
